Went out on a new friends boat out of clear water today.
See the boat ramp below

The small tackle shop there has live bait:
Pinfish, Shrimp and grunts.
Take the channel through the inner coastal:

We planned to head out 25 miles to a sunken Coastguard cutter.25 miles out in 40 feet of water.
But the boat just did not have it to make in in the rough 1.5 foot sea's and 1.5 foot wind waves.

so we fished in front of the city of ClearWater.

Anyway it was deeper at 15 miles out in front of Clearwater and there were some birds working so we trolled dead ballyhoos.

My rod went off over and over.
The difference between my rod and theirs was I had a 2 ounce egg sinker above the swivel and thus I was dragging my bait about 7 feet down.
Unlike the normal way around here which is to skip the ballyhoo across the surface.

The other important bit of info:
The water temp had just dropped with cooler winter winds. Now at 79'f surface temp.
This apparently brought the kings in as we had no previous reports of kingfish.

Excellent to eat, very much like Wahoo except they do not dry out if you over cook.

Just canned a batch to see if this works well.

Well King macks:

Fry up real tasty.
Smoked up very good.

Canned with my known good on Tuna and Salmon, not good on King Macks.
Fishy, at least the cat likes it.

fishing for them is kinda like going salmon. Their reasonably close and the limit is two each.
There usually around and biting.
You don't need down riggers or barbless hooks.

And they fight like a bat out of hell!!!
