Ran out yesterday rigged for Dorado.  Guess my intuition was right as I landed right on them.
Unfortunately I listened to radio sailfish in the green water.
I went there only to return to my spot to find the guy landing all my Dorado.
Was a great lesson. I have the area and technique dialed now.
Watch out Wayne. Next time i will take the lead.
Still nailed a decent day and caught a triple tail which is one of the best eating in the state.

Nice catch right there! Do you go after the sails with Ballyhoo or lures?

To Maui Miles:
The best way to catch sails is live porgys or croakers. Slow troll them over reefs and wrecks in about 150 to 250 feet.
Drag 2 free line and 2 with a 2 ounce egg weight at 2 or so knots.
Blue or clear water can be important. Also first light to about 9:00 AM.
after which the bite slows a lot. It is also hit and miss, one in 8 boats hooks up on average but knowing what and where + having the right bait and gear should reduce the odds to one in 3 boats.
Ballyhoo also works with reduced odds

I am currently rigging ballyhoo for next run.
Notice, I am using modified west coast herring cablebaiters.
Also notice the wood stick. This is used to feed the hook through. it takes practice.
the 2/0 and 2x strength eagle claw treble increases hook up versus a double but this rig is still in mod mode as there are still missed fish.
